  The Inland Patea Heritage Trail

(Taihape – Hastings) is one of the North Island’s best kept secrets. Along this trail you can retrace the ancient Maori route from Hawke’s Bay to the Inland Patea district around the headwaters of the Rangitikei River and its main tributaries the Moawhango and Hautapu Rivers. From the trail you can obtain breathtaking views of mountains and river gorges. From the highest point on the road you can cross the watershed where streams flow eastward through the mountain ranges to Hawke’s Bay and westward into the Tasman Sea south of Wanganui…. For more information about this trail, contact or visit the Taihape Information Centre.
