Gumboot Day 2012 was held at the Taihape Memorial Park off Kokako Street between 10am - 4pm and what a beautiful day sunny day it turned out to be. There was heaps of entertainment for everyone. The Gumboot Throwing competition, held on the recreation grounds at Memorial Park in front of the grandstand was the major ‘hub’ of the day with people from all ages, backgrounds and abilities lining up to throw a gumboot. A new Men's Open New Zealand record set again by Niki Martin, throwing 44.97m! The Women's Open title went to Kristen Churchwood, with a throw of 29.8m. The event had a classic New Zealand Kiwiana feeling with gumboot art, dog barking and wearable art competitions and heaps of kids entertainment and craft and food stalls. The lawnmower races provided some great action while the Baa Black sheep racing provided some fun novelty. Even the 45 motorhomes parked on site where a great turn out. The major sponsors Bekina, New World and WPI Baa Black sheep racing helped to bring in great numbers for the day.
