The early business scene in Taihape by a 19 year old after arriving in Taihape in 1897: "The next morning I had my first glimpse of what was to become my home for the next two and a half years. It was a gloomy prospect with the logs and the surrounding bush covered with about three inches of snow. A wide channel of mud ran for about a quarter of a mile. Along this could be seen a large corrugated iron building containing Ellis and Valder’s stores and immediately opposite it, a smaller building which I think was George Gray’s blacksmith shop."
Taihape now has many businesses that warrant a stop in Taihape.
