Gumboot Day Homebrew Competition
(beer and ginger beer) 2010 Regulations
- All entries must be personally home brewed by the entrant. If multiple brewers created the entry then all brewers must be listed on the entry form.
- The entry fee is $5.00 for each entry.
- A minimum of two bottles of each entry is required for judging. The minimum size of each bottle is to be 330mL.
- Entries must be made via email or send your entry form to PO Box 25, Taihape with your entry fee.
1. All entries must be registered by Wednesday 17 March 2010. Each bottle entered must have an attached label identifying the beer as specified on the entry form. The bottle labels must contain the name of person(s) entering the bottle and in a manner that hides the name from the judges, but is available for identification when needed.
2. Bottles received without proper labels may be disqualified.
- Payments must be made by cheque or internet banking.
- Cheques should be made payable to ‘Taihape Community Development Trust’.
- Payment by internet banking must be made in the following manner:
1. ANZ - account number 01-0763-0021459-00
2. The ‘Particulars’ field must contain your name as it appears on your entry form.
3. The ‘Code’ field must contain ’Homebrew’.
- Entrants may enter multiple beers into the same category.
- The same beer cannot be entered more than once.
- Failure to observe the competition guidelines may result in disqualification of the entry.
- The entry fee is not refundable for disqualified entries.
- The entrant must enter their beer into the category where they feel it will perform best. Judges or organisers will not classify or reclassify your beer.
- All entries will become the property of Gumboot Day.
- All entries must be received by the Gumboot Day Committee by the deadline of 2.00pm Saturday 20 March.
- No entries will be returned whether received late or otherwise.
- Judges and any affiliated organizers are able to enter beers into the competition.
1. Judges are not eligible to win prizes.
2. Organisers are eligible to win prizes.
3. Homebrews will be judged based upon Aroma, Appearance, Flavour, Mouthfeel and Overall Impression.

- Depending on the number and type of entries judging will assess
a) Best Draft Beer
b) Best Lager Beer
c) Best Dark Beer
d) Best Ginger Beer
The availability of 2nd and 3rd places will again depend on the number and type of entries.
1. Gumboot Day Champion brewer
1. Awarded based on total points (Gold = 3 points, Silver = 2 points, Bronze = 1 point).
2. All beers must be solely brewed by the entrant.
3. If two or more brewers are tied at the end of the competition then the Champion will be decided on the total cumulative score for the awarded beers.
2. If two or more brewers are still tied then the award will be shared.
3. Best overall beer
1. This is awarded to the beer(s) with the highest average score.
4. 2nd and 3rd Best overall beer places will depend on the number and type of entries. |
