Step 1: Feasibility Study (Memorial Park)
In November 2007, the Taihape Community Development Trust secured funding for the undertaking of a feasibilty study that would cover Memorial Park facilities, a possible management structure and the advantages of a combined (sports) group organisation.
The first meeting to which all voluntary groups and clubs had been invited took place 12 February 2008 at 6.30 pm at the Town Hall Supper Room. The event was very succesfull and nearly 60 people attended!
At the meeting the Trust explained the Taihape website and its intention to spearhead a combined (sports) group organisation. The consultants (OPUS) that would undertaking the feasibility study were present as well and they explained the purpose of the study, the evening's workshop and how they intended to involve the Taihape community. Next, all the attendants were divided into small groups and everybody was asked to think about and discuss major issues regarding Memorial Park, opportunities and hurdles. Part of OPUS' research was a scoping exercise / identification of community need (survey). OPUS made every effort to consider the wider Taihape context within its planning (an exercise so that, for example, groups not already at Memorial Park that may be future stakeholders/users would also be considered).
The final part of the feasibility study was a community meeting which was held on Monday 16 June. Again, this meeting was very well attended and all had the opportunity to have a say.
