At a meeting on Monday 12 April of 15 attendees, it was voted that the Taihape Community Development Trust (TCDT) proceed with Plan B. The meeting was called to bring the community up to date with progress on the building of a multi-purpose facility at Memorial Park. Sketch Plan 7, the latest plan for the grandstand site, as displayed round town some weeks ago, was again presented. However, due to the result of recent submissions to the Draft Reserve Management Plan for Memorial Park, where the majority of submitters were not in favour of demolishing the grandstand to replace it with a new building, the meeting decided to focus on an alternative site.
John Booth presented Plan B. This is an alternative plan on the alternative site – situated at the end of the courts and on part of the current croquet ground. It will be a 2 storey building with 3 squash courts, meeting rooms, change rooms and a large open common space with steps for seating on the ground floor. The upper storey will be the lounge, kitchen and bar area housing the snooker tables, and will have a broad deck on three sides. There will be no grandstand seating. The deck will allow viewing of all three fields and the courts. The cost will be less than the original grandstand site plan.
TCDT will now proceed by negotiating with the Croquet Club and getting new plans drawn up in order to submit a funding application to the Lottery Community Facilities Fund by 23 July.
